Welcome to Inscripta+, our $5/month paid tier
This side of Inscripta will host more structured, operational guides and longer, more in-depth pieces, expanding on some of what we usually cover, as well as the occasional look behind the curtain. The free tier isn’t going anywhere, but if you’d enjoy more extended essays or tactical frameworks like this one to use in your own creative work, this is where you’ll find them.

To unlock everything, you’ll need to upgrade your current subscription. Paid subscribers get access to all posts behind the paywall, and other members-only material.

That said, we never want money to be the reason that anyone is left out of the conversation. If you’re unable to afford a subscription, email hello@tabularasarecords.com with the subject line “Substack.” You’ll need to already be subscribed to the free tier, but if you are, we’ll upgrade you. No questions asked.

Let’s say you’ve already made it through a release. Maybe you used the first schematic and reverse-mapped the timeline, perfected the artwork, finalized the masters, managed to not fall apart over a 3000×3000 cover export, etc and so on. You got a couple reposts, an encouraging Bandcamp Friday bump and a text from a friend saying “yo track three goes.” Nice. Now what?

This next part can an area of extreme uncertainty for many. People often chase the next hit of visibility, or fall off the face of the earth, exhausted and underwhelmed. The campaign ends, the dopamine dries up and the spreadsheet languishes in your Google Drive along with everything else in there that you never look at.

But this moment, which is post-launch and post-noise is better understood as the real beginning. What you do now decides whether the work becomes residue or a root system. Whether it’s just a link in your bio, or the start of something that builds on itself over time.

This is Release Schematics #2. The first in this series was about building a release with dignity. This one is more about cultivating a durable signal, or creative infrastructure that actually accrues meaning. This requires thinking in narratives and designing rituals and it means extracting real value from your own depths and the culture around you.

Distribution is not Delivery

Let’s just clear this first: uploading a song is not the same as delivering it.

Delivery requires intentionality. Think about the difference between a Bandcamp DM from someone who found your work and took the time to reach out, and a Spotify playlist add. One of these invites you into a conversation, and the other disappears under a thousand similar data points.
